Junior Nikole Lim’s Short Film Nominated for International Award

Junior film production major Nikole Lim short film, “Ca Mao, Vietnam: The 600 Lepers,” was selected as one of the 35 semi-finalists in the 4th annual Film Your Issue (FYI) competition, an international contest that engages global young adults 14 to 24 in pressing social issues via the creation of two-minute videos.

Lim’s film aims to shed more light on leprosy in Vietnam and bring awareness to the lives of those afflicted with the disease.

“I am excited to have been recognized for the film,” Lim said. “I hope it will be beneficial for my future work.”

Lim has two documentaries lined up as upcoming projects. The first will focus on a community of mothers living with AIDS and the second will investigate homeless youth in Los Angeles.

Winners will be announced on June 6 at the FYI 2008 Awards Ceremony at the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles. FYI was created in partnership with USA Today, MySpace, MTV, The United Nations, The Associated Press, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The NAACP, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Humane Society of the United States, The American Film Institute and many others.

In Ca Mau, over 600 lepers live without necessary resources such as sanitary water, government support, medication for their wounds, and the cure for their disease. When I traveled to Vietnam to experience the country, culture, and lifestyle, it opened my eyes to see the need for humanitarian, economic, and political change.

Vote on MTV Think and on Myspace for the Film Your Issue Competition.
